Things to do in Shanklin

Christmas Shopping in the Old Village
head to Shanklin old village and indulge in an afternoon of Christmas shopping amongst the quirky independent shops that line the quaint winding streets. Find an endless variety of treasures including homeware, toiletries, toys and stationary as well as so much more. Be sure to visit the Christmas shop, full of magical goodies to don your 2019 Christmas tree. After a bustling afternoon take a stroll down to the seafront and relax at the Steamer Inn with a well earned lunch.

Coastal walks
Why not enjoy a bracing walk along the coast to Shanklin? Perfect to see some of the Island’s beautiful landscape, get some exercise and work up a healthy appetite. A great walk through the woodland along the coast from Ventnor to Shanklin is the perfect route for those looking to really earn their lunch.

Starting in Ventnor, head along through the woods at Luccombe ( keeping your eyes peeled for the mysterious wishing seat ) before taking the steps down to Shanklin seafront and treating yourself to a hot drink at The Steamer Inn.

Red Squirrel watching
Autumn/Winter is a great time to spot red squirrels on the Island. Red squirrels are the only squirrel native to the British Isles. Sadly they are rapidly disappearing from the mainland, being replaced by the American grey squirrel. The Isle of Wight is an important stronghold as the Solent provides a barrier to grey squirrels, allowing the red squirrels to flourish here.

Why not enjoy a morning of squirrel watching at Rylstone Gardens in Shanklin before heading to The Steamer for lunch?
